The Australia Awards Fellowship aims to enhance ties between Australian organizations and regional partners in order to establish networks of influence and leadership.

Fellowships are designed for senior and mid-career officials and professionals who can promote development results in priority areas and strengthen partner countries’ institutional capacity via their leadership.

Australian organizations can apply for funding to sponsor and support a variety of professional development programs through Australia Awards fellowships.

Professional development activities available through the Australia Awards Fellowship include work attachments, supervised research, a management or leadership course, a study tour, program meetings and visits, or a mix of these.

Fellowships can last anything from 2 weeks to 52 weeks. A Fellowship’s flexibility is a key aspect. They vary from specialty training for Timorese physicians in endoscopic departments at two top Australian hospitals to training for Vietnamese government workers in coastal and marine conservation and sustainability.

Scholarship Requirements

Australian organizations must guarantee that all Australia Awards Fellowship nominees fulfill the following general eligibility requirements:

  • Must at least 18 years old at the time the Fellowship begins
  • Not be a permanent resident or applying for permanent residency in Australia, or be the partner of a citizen of an eligible nation
  • Not be active-duty military personnel
  • Be able to meet all Department of Home Affairs requirements for (DFAT funded) student visas subclass 500
  • Be able to take part in the Fellowship.
  • Be allowed to go alone because DFAT will only finance and give visa assistance letters for individual Fellows, not their family members
  • Fellows who require assistance due to a disability must travel with a caregiver.

Scholarship Duration and Benefits

Australian organizations can apply for funding of up to AUD $34,500 per Fellow, up to a maximum of 15 Fellows, for the Australia Awards Fellowship to cover:

  • Return air travel, as well as applicable in-Australia travel, training fees, lodging, and living expenses.
  • Medical insurance prices in Australia (just for Fellowship holders).
  • Overhead charge for the special support for individuals with disabilities program.

Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam are among the countries involved.

The list includes countries in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and Europe, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine Territories, Sri Lanka, the Marshall Islands, and Namibia.

Ukraine

Please keep in mind that proposals for Brunei Darussalam, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Singapore will be rejected in Round 19.

Fellowship programs must be aligned with the six development focus areas listed below:

  • Climate change, adaptation, resilience, and the shift to green energy
  • Gender equality, disability fairness, and social inclusion are all important.
  • Health Digital Economy (encompassing cyber, crucial technologies, and media participation).
  • The Maritime Industry and the Blue Economy.
  • Connectivity and infrastructure.
