The University of Edinburgh MasterCard On-Campus Scholarships are designed for exceptional young people with strong academic and leadership credentials who have surmounted educational hurdles and are determined to continue their studies on campus.

This is a one-year postgraduate on-campus fellowship for the programs listed.

This scholarship covers the full cost of approved tuition, housing, travel, a living cost stipend, and study materials.

Scholarship Information

If you are just interested in applying for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Edinburgh, please apply for the MasterCard Foundation scholarship first. If you are offered a scholarship through the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program, you may apply for the academic program.

If you are applying for additional scholarships at the University of Edinburgh, please apply for the degree program of your choice in addition to the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship application. (Please also read the information on program application fees further below).

If you have already secured a seat on an appropriate degree program, please note this on your MasterCard Foundation Scholarship application form.

Scholarship Prerequisites

To be considered for the MasterCard On-Campus Scholarships at the University of Edinburgh, you must:

  • Applicants must be academically qualified for admission to the University of Edinburgh for one of the specified degree programs.

In general, you must have the equivalent of a UK Second Class (Upper) Bachelor’s (Hons) degree or above. Learn more about your country’s postgraduate admittance requirements:

  • Applicants must have suffered severe educational challenges (social, economical, personal, practical, or health-related).
  • Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree program by September 2023 and have a degree certificate and official final transcript to upload with their application by December 7th.
  • Applicants must be inhabitants and citizens of a Sub-Saharan African nation, or have refugee status.
  • Applicants must have encountered educational and early career obstacles.
  • Applicants must demonstrate experience, or at the very least ambition, in making a significant contribution to tackling the climate catastrophe.
  • Applicants must be 35 or younger on September 1, 2024.
  • Applicants must not have previously finished a postgraduate degree and must not be enrolled (or attempt to be enrolled) at another university while receiving the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship.

If applying for the on-campus Masters program, applicants must not have previously earned a postgraduate degree and must not be enrolled (or request to be enrolled) at another university while receiving the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship.

We especially encourage submissions from female academics, scholars from refugee and displaced backgrounds, and scholars with impairments (for further details, see the FAQs below).

Scholarship Duration and Benefits:

  • Full authorized tuition, lodging, transport, living expense stipend, and study supplies are covered.
  • A climate leadership program designed to inspire and encourage Scholars in their efforts to effect change in their communities and nations.
  • Scholars with impairments receive additional assistance based on an assessment of their requirements.
  • Timeline for application 2023/24.

October 23, 2023 (10 a.m. UK time) Applications will be accepted beginning December 1, 2023 (5 p.m. UK time). Applicants must have completed the eligibility evaluation and declaration, as well as registration to the scholarship application site.

December 7, 2023 (5 p.m. UK time) Applications are no longer being accepted.

February 1st

Interview short listing for 2024 On-campus (ODL) commences; both successful and failed candidates will be notified.

On-campus interviews take happen between the middle and end of February 2024.

The results of on-campus interviews will be released by mid-March.

From March until August 2024 assistance is offered during the admissions and immigration processes.

Application Method

Academic qualifications are required for admission to the University of Edinburgh. Applicants must apply for this scholarship before applying to the University.

Applications sent outside of the online application system will not be accepted by the Scholars Program.
